AMFA Persian Language Proficiency Test

The AMFA (Persian Language Proficiency Test), approved by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, is the standard Persian language proficiency exam for Persian learners worldwide.It consists of two sections: General and Academic. The General section is developed by the Saadi Foundation, while the Academic section is prepared by Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.

Applications of the AMFA Certificate:

  • Obtaining a residence visa in the Islamic Republic of Iran,
  • Obtaining a work permit visa in Iran,
  • Obtaining a visa to establish joint economic, cultural, social, or other cooperation offices in Iran,
  • Obtaining permission to employ local staff in Iran’s representative offices, cultural attachés, and embassies abroad,
  • Obtaining permission to teach in schools and institutions under the supervision of the Saadi Foundation,
  • Obtaining a student visa to study at Iranian universities,
  • Independent applicants.

The requirement to hold an AMFA certificate and the acceptable score range are determined by the policies and discretion of the relevant authorities. The Saadi Foundation is responsible for coordinating with relevant bodies to ensure the AMFA certificate is recognized for the above purposes.

There is no passing or failing score in the AMFA exam. Scores range from 1 (beginner) to 9 (proficient). A score of 0 is assigned to registered individuals who do not attend the exam. AMFA was established in 1396 (2017–2018) and is the first officially recognized Persian language proficiency test developed in Iran. It was officially launched in Iran in 1397 (2018–2019) and will subsequently be held in other countries
